When to choose 8 AWG over 10 AWG
Use 8 AWG when your string current exceeds 30A, your DC run exceeds 100 ft, or your voltage drop calculation requires a lower-resistance conductor. Use our Voltage Loss Calculator to confirm the right gauge for your project.
Recommended applications
- String-to-combiner box connections with high string currents
- Combiner box to inverter DC feeder runs
- Commercial rooftop and ground-mount solar arrays
- DC runs exceeding 100 ft where voltage drop must be minimized
- Both grounded and ungrounded PV systems per NEC Article 690
